Our U10's attended the SW Indoor Hurling Blitz on Saturday past in St Patrick's, B'mena. Our boys found it very enjoyable and got lots of hurling in a 2 hour period.
As a coach I found it a useful exercise in being able to spot some weaknesses in players which we can work on and also with the increase in tempo towards the end hopefully our players can speed up. Speaking to Thomas McCann on the day he see's this as being the first stage to develop the ground skills, the next being indoor airbourne and then moving outdoors in the better weather to combine all the skills.
I would urge all the SW clubs to try to avail of the opportunity to develop their hurlers in these blitzes. Thank you to Thomas for organising the blitzes and trying to improve hurling in the SW.

As a mentor for Eire Og hurling team from Derriaghy I would like to highlight the good work that your teams and mentors are doing in promoting the game of hurling at juvenile level under the supervision of Tom McCann your hurling officer.
Eire Og as a club have a proud hurling history but unfortunately in their recent past they were unable to field a team at any age group. Around 4 years ago some parents and mentors tried to get the club to return to playing hurling again and this has resulted in our club now boasting approx 50 commited hurlers at differant age groups.
To increase our name further last year we tried to take part in  various blitzes and tournaments and Tom invited us to play in a series of underage blitzes at differant locations around the South West Area. This was very beneficial to ourselves and hopefully South Antrim as it allowed our team to promote itself and it give our players game time which would have previously not have recieved. I also think it was good for the South West Region to play against another team.
We tried to repay the South West teams by inviting them to a tournament organised by ourselves in Belfast and this resulted in Saint Comgall's collecting the Shield in the competition and I feel and hope this will be the start of a friendly but competitive relationship  between ourselves and the South West Clubs.
Our club was also aided with matches at U12 level last year and I would like personally to thank Tir Na Nog, Creggan and St Enda's as these matches allowed our kids to win the South Antrim Nipper Quinn B Shield last year.
We have now entered 2 teams into the imminent U10 North Antrim Indoor League and I would like to thank Tom again for encouraging us to do this. I attended an U12 blitz last saturday in Ballymena organised by Tom and it again emphasized the commitment and determination these clubs have to promote the game and the skills required to play the game. There were also suggestions of Go Games between certain South West and South Antrim teams and I personally feel that this could only benefit the teams involved. I would also like to say that Eire Og would welcome any games , tournaments etc as I feel this is the enjoyable part for the players and the reason they keep coming back.

Kind Regards to all the SW Clubs

Is it possible that the S.W.Committee could look again at the development of our u10 and u8 footballers and have a more proactive role rather than leaving it up to the clubs to run events for themselves. Even if it was only on the basis of a one off blitz day it would certainly help.

Re U12 Final - thanks to the Aldergrove parent - great game played in a great spirit and the score flattered us a little as it was a much closer game. See you again next year!
